FILM WORK

 

Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood - directed by Oscar winning screenwriter/directer Callie Khouri. Ann was hired by T Bone Burnett to appear in the film with her son, Joel Savoy, and the Tom Waits band, as a musician and singer. She also consulted with Burnett on the Cajun music used in the film. Three songs by Ann with a stellar band consisting of Joel on fiddle, Stephen Hodge on drums, Larry Taylor on bass,Ann vocals and rhythm guitar and Colin Linden on lead guitar are on the soundtrack album of the movie (Sony Music).

 

All The King’s Men - directed and screenplay written by Oscar winning Steven Zaillian.Ann was hired by T Bone Burnett as associate music producer of the film. She worked on the set as a consultant regarding the portrayal of period musicians, helping to choose the musicians appearing in the film. She wrote a song, “O Comme Les Nuits Sont Longues”, recorded by her band Ann Savoy and Her Sleepless Knights, which appeared prominently in the film.

 

Marc and Ann - Ann and her husband, Marc Savoy, are the subject of this award winning film by documentary filmmaker Les Blank.J’ai ´Eté-z-Au Bal - Ann appears in this documentary from Brazos Films as a musician and is also interviewed on screen. This film is inspired by Ann’s book, Cajun Music a Reflection of a People.Pour On The Pepper - The Savoy Doucet Cajun Band (Marc and Ann Savoy, Michael Doucet) is the subject of this charming film, focusing on their music, lives, and work in preservation of the Cajun culture.

 

“Crescent City”- Ann and Marc appear in this beautiful music video of Emmylou Harris performing her hit song.

 

American Roots Music - Ann is interviewed at length, on film, in part three of this PBS special series.

 

WRITTEN WORK

 

Cajun Music: A reflection of a People (Bluebird Press) -”The Cajun Bible”, five hundred + pages of interviews, historic photos, song lyrics, and music on the history of Cajun music.American Roots Music (Rolling Stone Press) - Ann wrote the chapter on Cajun music in this stunning book on the story of American Roots Music.She has written numerous articles on the history of Cajun music and well as many booklets for historic Cajun recordings.

 

CD PRODUCTION WORK

 

“Evangeline Made” (Vanguard Records)-Grammy nominated tribute to Cajun music featuring rock super stars (Richard Thompson, John Fogerty, Nick Lowe, Linda Ronstadt, Linda Thompson, Rodney Crowell, Patty Griffin, Maria McKee) performing traditional Cajun songs, sometimes with the traditional Cajun bands.

 

“Creole Bred” (Vanguard Records)-follow up to Evangeline Made, this CD is a tribute to Creole music and Zydeco, music of the French speaking Afro-Americans of southwest Louisiana, also featuring rock superstars (Cyndi Lauper, Tom Tom Club, Taj Mahal,David Hidalgo,Sweet Honey In The Rock, Michelle Shocked) with traditional Louisiana musicians.
